About Course

Course Description: In this course we will do theology (the study of God), anthropology (the study of man), hamartiology (the study of sin), in preparation for soteriology (the study of salvation).  

Purpose: To give the students an introduction to the Doctrine of God and Man:

  • so that they might more appreciate God’s perfections and holiness
  • so that they might see how God intended man to be
  • so they might understand the full consequences of the fall
  • so that they might understand the great difference between God and man.

Course Content: Subjects covered in this course are:

  1. Doctrine of God (Theology Proper)
    1. How do we know God? Communicable and Incommunicable Attributes
    2. Who is God?
    3. The Triune God
    4. The decrees of God
    5. God’s Work of Creation
    6. God’s Work of Providence
  2. Doctrine of Man (Anthropology)
    1. Origin of Man (Biblical teaching and secular ideas)
    2. Man Created in God’s Image
    3. The Covenant of Life/Works
    4. How Sin Entered into the World
    5. Adam our Representative
    6. The Covenant of Grace
    7. The Covenant of Grace/Life in Greater Detail

What Will You Learn?

  • Students will understand the biblical idea of God and man, and as a result of this understanding:
  • Recognize and appreciate the God we believe in
  • Appreciate the work of grace that has given them salvation.
  • Be able to apply the truths learned in his life
  • Be challenged to see God in action transforming lives of sinners
  • Be more clear in preaching the gospel of grace

Course Content

Lesson 01 – God and Scripture
How do we know God? Interestingly, the Westminster Confession does not begin with God but with Scripture. Why? Because unless God chooses to reveal Himself, finite man could never know or understand an infinite God.
